Spread the Word
Think about this...
There has never been a word to identify a person who has lost a child.
Now there is... LOSSENT.
There are two reasons for sharing this newly formed word:
1. To bring a sense of comfort and community to lossents worldwide.
2. To gain formal entry into all dictionaries (see below) and to eventually be translated into different languages.
There are a few things that determine its eventual inclusion in a dictionary:
~ Clear and consistent meaning with widespread usage
~ Citations; cultural and global relevance & influence
~ Longevity and tracking frequency
Please share “Lossent” whenever & wherever you can!
~ Use it when speaking or writing
~ Share it on social media with #lossent
~ Talk about it with family, friends & strangers
~ At work or at play, together we can move it along quickly
ORIGIN OF THE WORD:
Thankfully, the availability of the internet allowed me to enter the rabbit hole of researching how and what is involved in creating a new word (neology, lexicology, and etymology, oh-my!) The suffix ‘–ent’ is most often used to modify nouns…like a person. Losing a child has repeatedly been called ‘the greatest loss.’
One day I put loss + ent together in my mind. I said it again, and I said it out loud. Lossent. Loss-ent. It felt nice. Sounded nice. Rolled off the tongue easily. It makes sense to me and I believe it is appropriate, useful, and obvious enough to fulfill the occasional need to express an horrific experience, event, or feeling with simple language. After my daughter died I became a lossent.
